Art Basel Miami Beach is underway at the Miami Beach Convention Center and at various venues around town.  Art Basel stages the world’s premier modern and contemporary art from galleries all over the world.  Not only are there exhibitions to view and art for purchase, but the event also spotlights:  Art Kabinett, Art Video, Art Public, Art Film and Art Basel Conversations and Art Salon. The exhibitions are open to the public and will continue through Sunday, December 9th.  Consult the Art Basel home page for the full line up of events, times and locations.  This is a not-to-be-missed event.

Design Miami is also underway simultaneously across from the convention center between 18th & 19th streets and Convention Center Drive.  Tickets may be purchased in combination for both events at the convention box office.  Art Public is at Collins Park with 22 works of art and live performances.

Since its beginning eleven years ago, Art Basel Miami Beach has spawned more than 4,000 satellite fairs, including a new jewelry fair, according to Norman Braman, Chairman, Art Basel Miami Beach Host Committee. Also on hand for the opening media reception Wednesday was the President of the Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the Mayor of Basel, Switzerland, Guy Morin.

In Midtown, Art Miami and Context Art Miami kicked off with a VIP Preview at the exhibition tents on 1st Avenue Tuesday night.  The expected highlight of this year’s event is Banksy Out of Context, featuring 5 wall reliefs in an iconic stencil from one of the world’s well-known graffiti artists.  A schedule of events is available at the Art Miami website.
